Our Editorial Standards

Every page on this site is written to fully answer the question it targets. Specific standards:

• Fees, addresses, and processing times are researched from official state government sources and updated periodically. We note when information may change and encourage verification directly with the office before submitting.
• Form numbers (VS 111, VS-170, DOH-296, DH-680, etc.) are verified against current state office publications. Forms change — we note this and direct readers to official state websites for the current version.
• County-level information (specific office addresses, phone numbers) is included where it meaningfully shortens the process for readers — county offices are often faster than state offices and this is rarely explained on government sites.
• When we are uncertain, we say so. When procedures vary significantly by county within a state, we note it. A direct "call the office to verify" is more useful than a confident answer that might be wrong.
• No padding. A page that fully answers its question in 800 words is better than one that repeats itself to hit 1,500. Depth means more information, not more words saying the same thing.

Government procedures change. Fees update annually in many states. Offices move. Forms get revised.
